About Kathi
Looking back at my life, it seems like I have always drawn. I remember the first time I took a class on colored pencil. It didn’t take long and I was hooked.
Over the years I studied under numerous artists by attending classes or receiving private instructions. For a while I turned to watercolor and enjoy that medium as well, but I kept coming back to colored pencil. For many years I didn’t pick up a pencil mainly due to life, building a home and several successful businesses. After moving to Oregon I began taking drawing classes again and after several years I switched from graphite back to colored pencils and never looked back. I began to dedicate to a weekly colored pencil class and also another full day of drawing. After doing my very first dog portrait of my Border Collie Betsy, I was hooked all over again. A few years later, Betsy was diagnosed with cancer and I was so thankful that I drew her when I did. I feel like she was directing me to what I really needed to do. Every day I look at her drawing and smile and my heart fills with the love and companionship she so freely gave me.
When I accept a commission for an animal portrait, I look at Betsy’s drawing to remind me why I draw and sincerely hope to provide the pet’s owner with the feelings and emotional connection that they have with their pet.
