Frequently Asked Questions

  • This is by far the question I get asked the most. Actually it depends on the size and the quality of the digital photograph I’m provided to work with. 30 - 40 hours seem to be the norm.

  • Colored Pencil Artwork should be framed with UV protected glass, hung on a wall that is not in direct light and do not touch the surface of the drawing as the color can be removed if touched.

  • Yes I can and often do. The drawing process requires me to set the drawing on an easel and observe it, especially after spending hours with it on the drawing board. What looks one way up close oftentimes does not look the same at a distance. This helps me with completing the drawing with realism. So, I often put one drawing up and work on another one during these observation breaks.

  • I use high quality colored pencils such as Faber Castell, Caran d’Ache, Derwent and Prismacolor plus a few others. The papers I use are Clairefontaine Pastelmat, Strathmore and sometimes water color paper. Although the artwork might appear like a painting, the work is actually a drawing with colored pencils.

  • Yes I do, however the photograph needs to be one that you have taken unless you have written permission from the person who took the photograph especially if it is a professional photo. I love drawing all wildlife including fox, squirrels, birds, etc.
